In the year 1996, Nokia released the first smart phone called the Nokia 9000 Communicator. It contained all the basic features future smart phones would be based upon: a keyboard with keys, a sliding mechanism and a color screen. The price tag and functions of the phone gave consumers the idea that the smartphone was best for the professional businessman. Apple completely changed the ideas of what a smartphone was supposed to do and the type of people who could benefit from having a smartphone. The release of the first iPhone in 2007 sparked the idea of smartphone touchscreen functionality and data capability we now have today. Six years later, other companies have joined the race with Apple and released the now the three top selling smartphones of 2013: the iPhone 5, the Samsung Galaxy S III and the iPhone 4S.
iPhone 5-One of the top selling smartphones
The iPhone 5 is the top selling smart phone so far due to it’s high end manufacturer, Apple. It is priced at $199.00 for a 16GB model, if you buy it with a specific carrier. Buying the iPhone unlocked and without a carrier contract is $649.00. One of the features that this iPhone has in comparison to it’s past smartphones is it’s long battery life, a better retina display, a better camera, a faster browsing speed and the assistant Siri.
Samsung Galaxy SIII- Another top selling smartphone
The Samsung Galaxy S III is in a close race with Apple for the top ratings for smart phones. This company has come a long way in smartphone technology to be competing with Apple. It is manufactured by Samsung and runs on Android 4.1(Jellybean). It can purchased for a starting price of at least $100.00 with a two year contract. This smartphone boasts a larger screen than any of it’s competitors including and especially Apple. It also features a dual shot camera along with photo editing. It has the same data capabilities depending on the model, and would most likely have been the the foremost of top selling smartphones if not for Apple’s larger customer base.
iPhone 4s-Yet another best seller smartphone
Even though people have an false impression that iPhone 4 is outdated it is still the third top seller with a good reputation out of all the other ratings for smart phones is the iPhone 4S. It is still being purchased for many of the same reasons as the iPhone 5, though it lacks the larger screen and upgrades. It is basically still the same phone as the iPhone 5. It costs $199.00 with the contract, though it can be bought for much cheaper second hand.
